Front page & feed

Pick the front page and archive layouts, and how many posts a page holds.

Front page layouts

Pick one under Settings → Design & branding → Homepage layout.

  • Magazine cover leads with your newest post at full width over its photo. Below it comes a strip of your featured posts you can scroll, then a lead story with the rest of the latest around it.
  • Editorial masthead drops the photo and sets the newest post centred and typographic. The rest run as a numbered shortlist over a grid.

Nothing to keep in order

Nothing on the front page is a list you maintain:

  • The cover story is your newest post.
  • The strip is every post you marked featured.
  • The grid is what follows.

Publishing moves all of them. There is no ordering to keep in step by hand.

Feed layouts

The feed is your archive of every post, newest first. Pick its layout under Feed layout.

  • List gives each post a wide row with a thumbnail, an excerpt and the writer’s face.
  • Grid gives each post a card.

The same setting also controls tag archives and writer archives.

The tag row

The row above the feed shows your seven busiest tags, with the number of posts under each. Every pill links to that tag’s archive, and the one you’re on is filled.

Where the feed lives

On a stock Ghost install, / is your posts collection. The front page is its first page, and the feed layout takes over from /page/2/.

Want the feed at a URL of its own as well? Add a route for it, as in Templates & routes. Nothing else about the theme changes either way.

Posts per page

A feed page holds 18 posts. Ghost sets this in its routing layer, not in theme settings, so there’s no control for it in Admin.

To change it, add limit: to the route under Settings → Labs → Routes.
