Troubleshooting

Force light or dark mode in a link, and fixes for common surprises.

Add ?mode=light or ?mode=dark to any URL to show that page in that mode:

https://example.com/my-post/?mode=dark

It wins over both the reader’s stored choice and Default appearance. Nothing is written to the reader’s browser, so it’s safe to send someone the link. Use it for screenshots and bug reports instead of describing which mode you were in.

Common surprises

The Template menu does nothing on my About page. Ghost gives pages at about, membership, tags, authors and recommendations their own template first. Change the setting instead, or use another URL. See Templates & routes.

A tag is missing from the Tags directory. Tags with no posts aren’t listed, and a publication with more than 100 public tags loses the end of the alphabet. See Tags.

Someone on staff isn’t on the writers masthead. Only writers who have published appear. See Writers.

A post has no contents list. The list is built from Heading 2s. A post with none shows no list. See Posts.

A post shows no related posts. Related posts share the post’s first tag. Untagged posts show none.

The signup modal offers fewer plans than the Membership page. Add your paid plans under Settings → Portal. See Sign-in & sign-up.

A menu item is missing. A submenu child whose parent is missing, or whose parent isn’t directly followed by a child, isn’t shown. See Navigation.

My logo disappears in dark mode. Set a light-ink Dark mode logo. See Navigation.

The Featured tier panel isn’t highlighted. Featured tier must match your tier’s name exactly. See Theme settings.
