Tags
Tag archives and the Tags directory page.
Tag archives
A tag’s archive at /tag/{slug}/ is your feed filtered to one tag. It follows Feed layout:
- List gives it a lead story over compact rows.
- Grid gives every post an equal card.
The lead story only appears on page 1.
The masthead
The top of the archive prints the tag’s name, description and post count, then the years it spans. The years come from the tag’s oldest and newest posts, so a tag published in a single year prints that one year.
A tag with no description prints just its count.
Other tags
Below the masthead, Other tags links to your eight busiest tags, never including the one you’re reading.
The Tags directory
The Tags directory is a page you create. Name it tags (URL /tags/), or use any URL and pick Tags under Template in the page settings menu.
It lists every tag alphabetically with its post count, and follows Directory layout: Editorial rows or Cover cards. A tag with no cover photo keeps an empty frame, so the grid stays even.
The page’s title and one-line summary become the directory’s heading and lead. Write that sentence in the page body. If the body is longer, set an excerpt in the page settings: the directory prints the excerpt instead.
Limits
- Tags with no posts aren’t listed. Ghost’s tag API only returns tags that have posts filed under them.
- Over 100 public tags? The end of the alphabet is cut off. Ghost caps every theme query at 100 rows, and a theme can’t lift that cap.
